Membership

Classes of Member

There are two categories of membership, although only one (full Member) is available to new entrants.  They are:

 Member

Our admission criteria align with those of our French parent. In brief, this means a Chartered Engineer or a Scientist of equivalent professional status (whether by post-graduate qualification or post-graduate experience in a role requiring knowledge and skills at a similar level) who has been proposed by two Members and who has duly been elected by the Council of the British Section of IESF and who, upon notification, has paid the current Section subscription [£55/year].

Les Amis de la Section Brittanique

On the death of a member, their wife, husband, or partner is invited by the Council to become a “Friend of the British Section”, should they so wish.  The Friends [£42/year] are invited to attend all meetings, dinners, visits, and voyages, alongside full members. The costs of these events for Amis are the same as for members and their guests.

 Applications for Membership

Applications are always welcome from those with an engineering, scientific or medical background who meet our membership criteria and feel that they could enjoy and contribute to the atmosphere of this small and friendly society.  Prospective applicants usuall have an appreciation of engineering or scientific achievement, good food and company, and perhaps more than a sneaking respect for the “Grand Projets” of our colleagues across the Channel.

The origins of the Section lie in civil engineering.  However for many years now, in line with the now named IESF in France, we have been open to membership from like minded people from all fields of engineering and science.  Our varied visits, and topics for our evening lectures, reflect a wide range of interest in science and engineering, and usually have a connection with France in some way.

Those interested in joining who do not already know an existing Member of the British Section of IESF are invited to contact the Secretariat. Details are on the Contact Us page. Alternatively you may download an application form by clicking this link - please note that the completed forms need to be accompanied by a CV.
